Présentation :
Le Château de Beaucastel est depuis longtemps considéré comme l'un des plus grands vins de France et est unanimement réputé à la fois pour son équilibre, son élégance et sa capacité au vieillissement. Beaucastel dispose d'un terroir extraordinaire à la pointe Nord de l'appellation Châteauneuf-du-Pape, très exposé au Mistral. Les treize cépages de l'appellation y sont cultivés biologiquement depuis les années 60.
Le millésime :
2008 est un millésime assez nordique, plus froid que 2007 par exemple. Un bel été indien a permis aux cépages tardifs (mourvèdre, counoise) d'atteindre une maturité parfaite. La sélection à la vigne a été impitoyable, et la production est d'environ 50% d'une récolte "normale". Le vin est assez nordique également et joue vraiment la carte de l'équilibre et de la finesse tout en conservant une trame magnifique. Ce vin sera délicieux très jeune et bénéficie d'un potentiel que l'on peut rapprocher de celui du millésime 1988.
Situation :
Châteauneuf-du-Pape, entre Orange et Avignon, le Château de Beaucastel rouge est vignoble de 70 hectares.
Terroir :
Le Château de Beaucastel dispose d'environ 110 hectares d'un seul tenant au Nord de l'appellation. Le terroir est l'archétype des grands terroirs de Châteauneuf : galets roulés en surface, argiles, sables et calcaire en profondeur. Les vignes sont âgées et la culture biologique pratiquée depuis plus de 50 ans a permis à leur racines de plonger en profondeur.
Élevage :
Chaque cépage est ramassé séparément, à la main. La vinification se fait en cuve tronconique bois pour les cépages réducteurs (syrah, mourvèdre) et en cuve traditionnelle en béton et grès émaillé pour les cépages oxydatifs (grenache). À l'issue des fermentations malo-lactiques, la famille Perrin procède à l'assemblage des différents cépages, puis le vin va vieillir en foudres de chêne pendant un an avant sa mise.

Dégustation :
Aspect : Robe rubis foncé très profond, reflets violets.
Nez : Riche sur les fruits noirs et murs, la cerise, la figue, délicatement fumé.
Bouche : Ronde et puissante, superbe équilibre entre les tannins et la chair, sur les fruits rouges. Beau potentiel de garde.

"Sometimes the presentation and reputation of a bottle suggests a match and so it proved with this handsomely packaged bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape. Undecanted it exhibited an intense richness and sweetness that made me immediately think of occasions like Thanksgiving and Christmas. It would be a splendid bottle for a turkey, especially with the classic accompaniments of squash and sweet potato - also with a handsome leg of pork. Decanted it became more structured and savoury, suggesting slow cooked beef rather than turkey or pork. Beef shortribs would be a great pairing."
